Mission Statement: Our mission is to educate computer users about email phishing, because phishing can lead to identity theft, which can destroy lives.
Education is the most important weapon in the prevention of fraud. Knowing not to open attachments from strangers is just one of the tips.
Why The Big Phish? Because you want to be the one that got away.
Identity theft can take years to repair, unless you have some type of protection plan in place. Your credit may be damaged until repaired.
The Big Phish attempts to provide recent examples of incidents. Screen shots of incidents are provided with TipOff awareness pointers.
The web site is supported by DAS Technologies.
We also have a sister site at Trojanbusters.com.
DAS Technologies services both the Inland Empire and Orange county.
Many consumers fail to back up their data. This can be devastating if the computer fails, is stolen, the hard drive corrupted, or a trojan horse encrypts the files on the hard drive. Even a voltage spike from a dirty power line can corrupt or disable a computer system.
Phishing emails can also link to trojan horses or viruses.
Another general recommendation is to have an anti-virus program that offers the feature of scanning for spyware, or purchasing both an anti-virus program and an anti-spyware program. It is also a good idea to implement and configure a firewall, to protect from information exiting as well as malware entering through ports that are not normally used.
There is also a need for rootkit scanners. Windows XP is the latest platform where there are several scanners to choose from.
